Categories

Rename, recolour and hide the built-in categories, and create your own.

Categories sort your stock and decide which fields each item gets. Aeon has six built-in ones: Cards, Sealed, Sneakers, Funko, Vinyl and Other. You can create more: watches, Lego, Japanese Pokémon…

Open Stock, then Manage next to the category chips.

Managing categories

Name and type

A category has two things:

  • a name, free, with its colour and icon: that is what you see;
  • a type (cards, sealed, sneakers, figures, vinyl or other): it sets the items' guided fields. For example, the “cards” type offers game, set, number, language, finish, grading…

A “Japanese Pokémon” category of the cards type gets the same fields as Cards.

Choose the type that fits your items; the preview shows the result.

Create

You can have 30 categories at most, hidden ones included.

Edit, reorder, hide

  • Edit: name, colour, icon. For a built-in category, an empty name keeps the original one.
  • Drag a category (or Move up / Move down) to change the order.
  • Hide: the category is no longer offered for new items; its items and their history stay intact. Show again makes it available again. Other cannot be hidden: it is the fallback category.

Change a custom category's type

Built-in categories keep their type. A custom category's type can be corrected: Aeon shows how many items are affected and checks that no field is too long and that no item would become an identical variant of another. Nothing is lost: fields that no longer match the new type move to the extra attributes.

Public catalogues

The new type's characteristics may appear in your public catalogues.

Delete a category

Built-in categories cannot be deleted. For a custom category still in use, Aeon shows what depends on it (items, units, listings, catalogues) and offers:

  • Hide (recommended): nothing changes for existing items;
  • Move, then delete: the items move to the category of your choice, in a single operation. Guided fields that no longer match move to the advanced editor, without being erased, and past sales follow their items in the category breakdown of Finances.

A category with no item at all is deleted directly.
